Lasik and PRK

If you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism, and have a stable visual prescription, you may be a candidate for laser vision correction. PRK and LASIK both involve using an excimer laser to reshape the cornea to correct for blurred vision. In PRK, the laser treatment is applied directly to the surface of the cornea. IN LASIK, a corneal flap is created and the laser is applied to the inner layer of the cornea. LASIK can now be performed completely with lasers, without the use of a blade to cut the cornea as in the past.

INTACS (Intracorneal Rings)

INTACS is a procedure that uses small corneal (intrastromal) ring segments to change the shape of the cornea. These small inserts are designed to be permanent, yet may be replaced in case you need a different correction later. Intacs are most often used for correction of certain corneal disorders such as keratoconus and Pellucid's marginal degeration.

Implantable Intraocular lenses

Restore, Rezoom, Crystalens, and PRELEX are alternative refractive surgical procedures for those with significant hyperopic (farsighted) corrections or for those patients needing a bifocal corretion. With these procedures, a bifocal plastic lens is implanted into the eye to improve both distance and near vision. This surgical procedure is similar to the routinely performed cataract surgery procedure.

Conductive Keratoplasty (CK)

CK is a new procedure used to correct farsightedness. CK uses radiofrequency (RF) waves to create small tissue burns to the cornea which causes the shape to change. The new corneal shape will correct for blurred near vision. The effects of the CK procedure are temporary, however, and may need to be repeated in three to six years.
